Super Micro Computer, Inc. (SMC, Nasdaq: SMCI) – a global leader in enterprise IT solutions, storage, networking and green computing technologies – recently announced the expansion of one of the world’s largest server solutions portfolios with new, highly anticipated customer additions. The first of these are top-loading storage systems and Simply Double systems, which can accommodate up to 24 3.5″ drives in a 2U high platform. The second launch is for single socket solutions that will fit perfectly into customers’ budget needs.
New Storage Top-Loading and Simply Double platforms
SuperMicro has announced the release of 60- and 90-disk plarforms and Simply Double systems (24x 3.5″ in 2U) optimised for the latest generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor and NVMe PCIE 4.0 drives.
With 60 or 90 slots, the top-loading systems are available in single-node, dual-node and dual-node HA options. With the new systems, customers can exploit the full potential offered by the SAS controller PCIE 4.0 RAID or IT mode. The height of these rack solutions is 4U and they support 60 and 90 slots for 2.5″ and 3.5″ SAS3/SATA3 plus two m.2 PCIe on the motherboard and two internal SATA SSD slots. Single-node systems of course support mirror OS via two 2.5″ hot-swap slots at the rear and optionally four NVMe U.2 available as an option for single and Dual-node systems.

Simply Double systems support 16 DIMM slots and up to four additional NVMe U.2 drives. Airflow has been improved in the new platforms to keep the entire environment running at an even more optimal temperature. This has a huge impact on the reliability of SuperMicro systems.
New Intel Xeon single socket platforms
SuperMicro expands its single-processor portfolio with new solutions based on the new Intel Xeon E-2300 and the third-generation (3rd Gen) Intel Xeon Scalable processors. As a result, customers can optimise the configuration of their choice, from entry-level servers (budget systems) to data-center systems, perfectly to their needs. With Intel Xeon E-2300 processors, MicroBlade® and MicroCloud devices support applications requiring high-density computing infrastructure, including content streaming and EDA.

SuperMicro’s new single-socket systems deliver better-than-ever performance and support much larger workloads. The systems deliver data-center-class performance. The platforms offer support for new PCIE 4.0 I/O technologies that automatically remove the bottleneck and significantly accelerate applications compared to the previous processor generation. In addition, the systems support Intel SGX (Intel® Software Guard Extensions). The new systems are available in many variants, in multi-node, traditional rack servers or workstations. The new systems support from 4TB to 6TB DRAM + Intel Optane, which is an excellent result considering that we are talking about singe-socket platforms.
The Intel Xeon E-2300 processors provide the customer with today’s essential small business server performance by offering processors with up to 8 cores and 128GB of DDR4 RAM at a TDP of 95 watts.
